Our idea started by us trying to simply brighten up someone inside of their house. We figured we would go inside, but some nice colors on the walls and help someone feel better about the inside of their house. There was so much bad news on the horizon, we really wanted to create our own GOOD news!

We laid out our plan to our employees and immediately got the positive feedback that we needed. That’s it, the event was off and running. While running our eventby a friend of mine, Pete Grandin, from Grandscapes; he fired back, “Count me in. I’ll take care of the front yard.” It wasn’t until meeting with the eventual winners, Ray and Lori Wilkinson, that we realized just how much we could really help out someone in need.

When talking with Lori, she mentioned that she paid for heating oil $100 at a time. A good friend of DMP, Steve Smith from Smithco Oil, was a phone call away from inspecting and donating an entire tank of oil. It caught on from there. We called all of our DMP contacts and we were met with the same response every time, “ Sounds awesome, what can I do?” The list grew to 40 different contractors, business’, restaurants, grocery stores all willing to donate time, service, products, food, and most of all the effort to help someone in the community.

There were so many wonderful stories that came out of last year’s event, including the response from the community, the volunteers from Ray’s life and of course what we ended up accomplishing in such a short time frame. This year’s Makeover is shaping up to be even better and we can’t wait to send more positive vibes through our wonderful community.
